Rules

otherworlders: (if i could only be with you once more)
We don't have many, but the rules we do have in place are meant to encourage common courtesy and make the musebox a safe and enjoyable place for everyone to play. Please take the time to review them!

1. We have a zero-tolerance policy regarding wank. Harassment, drama-mongering, namedropping and other things of that nature are unacceptable. We're all adults here, and we expect people to handle their problems in a way that reflects that. If you start wank or if we receive legitimate complaints about your treatment of other players, you will be removed from the musebox. If you need assistance handling an issue you might be having, feel free to ask one of the musebox overseers.

2. The Golden Rule. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Be excellent to each other.

3. Please mark any threads that might have questionable content. We may be a musebox, but we'd like everyone to be able to play here comfortably and know what they're in for. A clear warning in the subject line or or log description along with putting the body of the post under a cut is sufficient! We do ask that you do not include rape in any plots or threads you may have here. There are legal issues, and there are trigger issues. It's unkind and offensive to people who have suffered that trauma in real life.

4. Please respect your character. We don't have an application and nor do we have the rigmarole of a usual game, but we'd still like to play with characters that are in character and true to themselves (remember who you are, Simba). Likewise, please respect their canon relationships. While we understand that development happens through RP (which is wonderful!) and characters are likely to develop a number of cross-canon friendships and other relationships, please keep in mind that characters they were close to in canon should still be important to them. We're not here to tell you who to ship with who! However, if X is Y's best friend or sibling or parent in canon, please don't ignore them. These relationships are still important even outside of canon.

Whilst [community profile] ourhaven is player driven and does not have the plot or structure of a game, we understand that every now and then you might want to get in touch with someone with suggestions, concerns, or questions. The mods of this musebox - or musebox overseers, more accurately - are Rems ([plurk.com profile] radically/[personal profile] requiems) and Phase ([plurk.com profile] puncheverything/[personal profile] its_game_time), as inherited from their time at Dragon Haven, the game [community profile] ourhaven is based from.

There are several ways to get in touch. You can contact Rems or Phase directly using the avenues listed above, or you can leave a comment (anon or logged in, it's up to you) to this post and we will get back to you -- all comments are sceened.

If your character is seeking advice ICly from a figure in charge in order to answer their questions about this place, both the overseers have a character that operates as a Pillar so questions can also be directed to them (Lucina and Mikado, respectively).

Continents

otherworlders: (on every forest and field)

Asaliah
Landmarks: Deserts: The Sandsea | Icefields: Frozen Wastes | Forests: The Great Wood, Chocobo Forest | Mountains: East Peninsula | Rivers: Celeste River

To the east, Asaliah is the largest of the three continents. The majority of this continent is covered in thick forests, collectively known as The Great Wood, but locals tend to distinguish it further by scent or sound. Light filters through trees, peaceful, and many areas of the forest lay isolated and unexplored, unless by the most seasoned of adventurers who walk away from the repeatedly tread paths you're supposed to talk. Some say the forest is evergreen as it sprung forth from Tiamat, but that's likely just an unfounded rumour. Fairies are common here, frolicking between the trees, as are wild chocobos - they are most common south of the Celeste River divide, in the Chocobo Forest (south of Davenport and west of Baron). Celeste River flows from the East Peninsula, a congregation of mountains that snake around the forest edges and end with the Frozen Wastes to the far north, a place of perpetual cold.

Even when the forest begins to thin, trees still populate the landscape, and when the climate changes too much to sustain them, you'll still be face to face with a lot of cacti. The southern parts of this continent are desert, days warm and humid and nights bitterly cold - this area has been dubbed The Sandsea, for its rippling sand dunes and relentless nature. Fortunately, the weather of The Sandsea does not extend to the wood, which enjoys late spring weather for much of the year, save for during winter when snow falls further south than the wastes.

Places in Asaliah: Robolu, Baron, Coerthas, Turtlez HQ, Davenport Homestead, Ikebukuro, Gold Saucer, Ponyville, The Shimmering Deep, Trigleph, Sorlian Outlands

Ludisia
Landmarks: Beach front: Summerfields | Icefields: Winterfields | Forests: Gladewood | Marshes: Rainemarshes | Mountains: The Northern Range (Starmount, Sunfall, Ezofuji), Freedom's Point | Rivers: The Ratterlin, Dallos River, Moonflow

Ludisia has a much colder climate than its neighbours, so much so that its north is home to many icy peaks and fields of snow. Head far enough through the Winterfields' ice and you will encounter The Northern Range - whilst populous in mountains, three stand above the rest, being Starmount, Sunfall, and Ezofuji (the latter also a volcano). Some say the cold extended from Druaga's icy mists and swirling fog, until one is reminded that, despite the cold, it's really not all that foggy in Ludisia. Once the snow begins to thaw, even the forests are less sunsoaked and have the feeling of a place that sees a lot of rain - even though its a mystery as to when, since it never rains here, not that anyone sees. Unless the Pillars are having a particularly bad day, anyway. It would be safer to say the atmosphere of Ludisia feels as a place does in the long sunny afternoons after a lot of rain much of the time. The rainy start has left one of its forests as a marshland, aptly known as Rainemarshes, whilst Gladewood is more like its Haven counterparts.

Ludisia is also home to three rivers, The Rattalin which stretches out to the sea, and its offshoots, Dallos River and the Moonflow, which ends in a lake. Once past the lake, you're likely to find rolling green fields which slowly transition to sandy fields and beaches known as the Summerfields. The Summerfields are eternally warm, though nothing like the deserts of Asaliah or Callar. Freedom's Point, a much smaller cluster of mountains than its Range cousins, can also be found here.

Places in Ludisia: Veldime, Kamui, Cansycia, Seahaven, Moonflow, Phon Coast, Clayr's Glacier, Storybrooke, The Market

Callar
Landmarks: Bay: Illium Bay | Deserts: The Expanse | Mountains: Gleavemountains

"Dry, arid, inhospitable" would be a good description of Callar, except that somehow, life has managed to thrive here, and that was likely due to dragon intervention - even now, the Pillars sustain the balance dragons created to make it a surprisingly populated space with a fair few surprises. The smallest of the continents, Callar is a place of mysteries. Every now and then, you're likely to find a flower or a tree that quite clearly doesn't belong in its landscape, and most agree that the culprit was Maranda. Though mostly desert - known as The Expanse - Callar is not so warm that people can't live here happily, and the nights are delightfully pleasant. A large mountain range, the Gleavemountains cuts the continent in half, effectively dividing the desert with grass and scrubland on the other side with a fair few rocky outcrops and canyons to be found.

Stretching around Nos Astra, Illium Bay is home to shallow waters, sturdy rock formations, and the occasional coral reef.

Places in Callar: Fort Hold & Weyr, Monsbaiya, Nos Astra, The Forbidden Lands, The Archylte Steppe, Crystal City, Baticul

Islands

The sea, as a whole, is largely uninterrupted in terms of land mass. The weather may be unpredictable and undersea life - and pirates - may be a threat, but the only thing to be expectant about the Haven seas is how unexpected they can be. There are a few islands, but many are mere spits of land, suitable enough to be marooned on or to store a cache of items but not much else. Some of the places brought by the dragons exist on their own islands, and are much larger.

Occasionally, sea faring groups may speak of being sheltered from a storm that should have doomed their vessel, or speak of being protected by an old god of the sea, and they'd argue that some of his power remains.

Welcome to the application page! There are three types of applications all bundled here for ease of access - characters, canon updates, and settings.

Characters

Whilst we are a musebox, we do have an application (of sorts) for incoming characters. This is so we can learn a little about you and allow those who are entirely unfamiliar with your character with a place to start from - a quick summary, if you will. This is entirely intended to help all muns out with planning interactions and finding your feet, so please don't stress over it!

Applications are first come, first served. Challenges will not be accepted. We (the mod overseers) will accept and invite you as soon as we see it, but we'll aim to check once a week. If you haven't heard anything back after more than a week, feel free to contact us directly.

PLAYER

Name:
Personal Journal:
Contact: other ways of getting in touch with you, such as plurk, AIM, PM, e-mail.

Current, returning, or invited? Anyone already in the musebox may use "current". For those who were previously in Dragon Haven and wish to come back in with someone new, please use "returning". If you have been invited in, "invited" is your option here. If you have been invited, please tell us which player invited you so the mod overseers can clarify.

CHARACTER

Name: The character's name.
Journal: The journal you will be using for your character. This lets us send you an invite!
Series: What series from which your character hails.
Age: If there isn't a canon one, guess! If they look older/younger than their age, please list both.
Canon point: From what point is your character pulled to the Havens?

History and personality: For both history and personality, this may be a link to a wiki as appropriate. If you want to expand on the wiki at all (in the case of it being bare bones or not detailing events in the series until your chosen canon point) you may, but this is not required, the same as for personality. A link will do, but it's up to you if you want to list out more. Original characters, however, will need to provide a link to a world summary, whether it's one you've written already or one you still have to write. We will not accept originals into the musebox without a detailed world history and personality, as this is the only source for information about them.
Alignment: What would your character's D&D alignment be? Whilst optional, this allows everyone, regardless of if they are familiar with the character or not, to know on a basic level what your character is like at a glance.

Weapon usage: What weapons they are versed in and can use, if any.
Skills and abilities: Is your character a skilled mechanic or a competant white mage? This is where you let the world know about what they can do. A wiki link can be provided for more detailed information, as appropriate.

Prior application: Has your character previously been in a game? You may link any (and all!) full applications you have already written - and were accepted - here for other players to read. This is entirely optional!

Canon Updates

So you want to change the point your character was pulled from their canon world? Not a problem. Be sure to read the FAQ first for how this will work ICly! We'll acknowledge any and all updates as soon as we see them. If it's been more than a week and you've had no response, feel free to contact us directly.

Character name and journal:
Old canon point:
New canon point:

Anything else we should know? Changes in appearance, changes in age, major personality changes, etc.

Settings

Setting applications are the same as they were in Dragon Haven, so they're still quite detailed. These will be reviewed as the mod overseers are able to, but at least every 3-4 weeks. If it's been over a month and you've heard nothing back, feel free to contact us directly.

Premise

otherworlders: (the road into tomorrow is long)

The world has been reborn.

"Once upon a time, the dragons created an experimental world. Some made things. Some protected the things the others made. But all upheld the world, in their way.

This world was not perfect. It rose, it prospered, and then it fell to failure. This cycle lasted many turns, beyond the lifetimes of you or me. Until the great mother and death's keeper decided enough was enough. They stalled the end, wiping the memories of dragon kind and their forced captives alike. This time, they didn't start anew. And then, the otherworlders came.

There was a lot of sadness. They stood against one who should never have turned, and survived. They faced darkness and death, obstacles and mysteries, loss and worse. But there was also joy. Hope, and a home.

But the borrowed time the mother and keeper gave the world could not last, and it too failed, as had those before. The otherworlders were told to say goodbye...

They did not.

The havenites stood their ground. They brokered a deal, a transference of power and ownership. The Pillars took control, protected by their Gurdians, flanked by their Balancers. But it did not go to plan. The sleeping dragon at the center of the world destroyed everything.

And then, the Havens began to reform. For it was not a failure. They had won. The dragons vanished soon after, and the havenites rediscovered the world they'd lost, little by-

Ah, it's getting late. Perhaps we will continue the story another time."

What will your story be?
