Applications

Welcome to the application page! There are three types of applications all bundled here for ease of access - characters, canon updates, and settings.

Characters

Whilst we are a musebox, we do have an application (of sorts) for incoming characters. This is so we can learn a little about you and allow those who are entirely unfamiliar with your character with a place to start from - a quick summary, if you will. This is entirely intended to help all muns out with planning interactions and finding your feet, so please don't stress over it!

Applications are first come, first served. Challenges will not be accepted. We (the mod overseers) will accept and invite you as soon as we see it, but we'll aim to check once a week. If you haven't heard anything back after more than a week, feel free to contact us directly.

Contact: other ways of getting in touch with you, such as plurk, AIM, PM, e-mail.

Current, returning, or invited? Anyone already in the musebox may use "current". For those who were previously in Dragon Haven and wish to come back in with someone new, please use "returning". If you have been invited in, "invited" is your option here. If you have been invited, please tell us which player invited you so the mod overseers can clarify.

CHARACTER

Name: The character's name.
Journal: The journal you will be using for your character. This lets us send you an invite!
Series: What series from which your character hails.
Age: If there isn't a canon one, guess! If they look older/younger than their age, please list both.
Canon point: From what point is your character pulled to the Havens?

History and personality: For both history and personality, this may be a link to a wiki as appropriate. If you want to expand on the wiki at all (in the case of it being bare bones or not detailing events in the series until your chosen canon point) you may, but this is not required, the same as for personality. A link will do, but it's up to you if you want to list out more. Original characters, however, will need to provide a link to a world summary, whether it's one you've written already or one you still have to write. We will not accept originals into the musebox without a detailed world history and personality, as this is the only source for information about them.
Alignment: What would your character's D&D alignment be? Whilst optional, this allows everyone, regardless of if they are familiar with the character or not, to know on a basic level what your character is like at a glance.

Weapon usage: What weapons they are versed in and can use, if any.
Skills and abilities: Is your character a skilled mechanic or a competant white mage? This is where you let the world know about what they can do. A wiki link can be provided for more detailed information, as appropriate.

Prior application: Has your character previously been in a game? You may link any (and all!) full applications you have already written - and were accepted - here for other players to read. This is entirely optional!

Canon Updates

So you want to change the point your character was pulled from their canon world? Not a problem. Be sure to read the FAQ first for how this will work ICly! We'll acknowledge any and all updates as soon as we see them. If it's been more than a week and you've had no response, feel free to contact us directly.

Character name and journal:
Old canon point:
New canon point:

Anything else we should know? Changes in appearance, changes in age, major personality changes, etc.

Settings

Setting applications are the same as they were in Dragon Haven, so they're still quite detailed. These will be reviewed as the mod overseers are able to, but at least every 3-4 weeks. If it's been over a month and you've heard nothing back, feel free to contact us directly.

CHARACTER

Name: Celty Sturluson
Journal: [personal profile] lookingforhead
Series: Durarara!!
Age: Ageless, looks in her 20s
Canon point: Middle of DRRRx2

History and personality: http://durarara.wikia.com/wiki/Celty_Sturluson

In spite of being a monster living in the modern world, Celty has actually acclimated rather well to her new life. She works as a courier, though a bit to excess as she rarely takes days off. Riding is in her nature, so the sedentary life is not for her. She spends a good deal of her free time online and in chat rooms. She enjoys watching scary movies and alien autopsy documentaries, but usually winds up scaring herself instead. The only thing she fears more than aliens are traffic cops. Her fear of aliens sometimes precludes other explanations of an event, such as her first theory about the Slasher. Despite being a supernatural creature herself, she’s quicker to believe something was an alien than something like her. She's not very good at video games or cooking, and when she gets frustrated with something that isn’t a living thing she tends to wrap it up in an impenetrable orb of shadow. There is no real point or lasting effect to this, and is more her unique way of throwing a tantrum.

The interesting thing about Celty (compared to a lot of monsters in fiction) is that she carries no revulsion or rejection to being a monster. It's what she is and she's fine with it. At the same time she has cultivated friendships with the humans around her and in an early episode of the second half of the series she foregoes hunting down a lead for where her head is in favor of helping out some friends in need (one of whom is being attacked, and another who just needs someone to talk to). She considers herself at the same level or even below some humans, referring to Shizuo as being stronger than her and finding his strength thrilling, and later on assuring him that he doesn't need to fight to protect her because she's concerned about his own well being.

She's become an urban legend, but she doesn't really care about the status, nor does she seem to care about hiding what she is. She shows up in public regularly, and often takes her helmet off when asked. She sees no big deal on the matter, but simply is herself. Thanks to living with Shinra and experiencing his devotion to her, she's getting to the point where she doesn't believe she needs her head to validate her existence, though she'd still like it back for the sake of security (who knows what would happen if it was destroyed). This all becomes magnified after the Dollars rally when a lot of people see her without her helmet and take pictures of the incident. She realizes just how much she’s been hiding herself and keeping away from people and decides that it’s HER city as well. In the manga’s take on the scene her joyful ride through the city includes her taking her helmet off in front of the cops who are chasing her.

She still keeps her nature relatively quiet, keeping the helmet on to avoid attracting too much attention or hassle. Even so, she doesn’t precisely avoid other people either. Her interactions with strangers are pretty much like those most other people would have in a big city. She keeps to herself because that’s just what you do as part of society, but she doesn’t have much trouble at all speaking or interacting with strangers if she has a reason to do so. Just like with her friends, if she sees someone who is in trouble or seems troubled, she will likely approach them if curiosity gets the better of her. At heart she is a helpful person, in contrast with the nature of what she was like in her old days, a monster roaming the countryside (or so it is assumed).

She herself is approachable and will stop to listen if someone talks to her, but things like in person “small talk” aren’t really things she’s good at, and so they tend to come out a bit more awkward and stumbling. It’s hard to fill silence when you can’t speak. The majority of her social interaction still occurs online however, on message boards and chatrooms, but, again, not to any degree that is different from the average modern person. She tends to relax a bit more in these interactions because everyone else is on equal footing with her.

She poses as a man in the online chat, but she's a terrible liar (both online and off), and her chat partners know she's a girl and are just polite about it. Whether they know who she really is depends on the other character (all the chat room sequences involve characters who know each other offline but may not know their aliases. Only Izaya is the one who surely knows who everyone is).

Her phone is her main source of expression, and she cherishes it as a gift from Shinra. Beyond that, she tends to be very expressive with body language, even going so far as to go through the physical action of laughing in one episode even though there is no sound to go with it. If her helmet is off, the shadowy "smoke" that emerges from her neck is very expressive as well, puffing up thicker when she's angry or embarrassed, or even in the shape of a heart in one case.

When it comes down to the search for her head, Celty is ultimately split on the matter: On the one hand she wants to get her head back, for fear that she may lose herself without it as she has some trouble for a time remembering what it looked like. At the same time, she is not sure who she may become if she got it back and had her memories restored. While initially upset at Shinra that he hid what he knew about her head, she does understand his fears of losing her once she regains her memories, even if they’re worthy of a few punches to the gut. As things progress with Shinra and she becomes happier with her current life, she turns to wanting her head back so she can keep it safe. She assumes that if any harm were to come to her head, it would bring permanent harm to her.

The relationship between Celty and Shinra is an odd one. It can be best described as mutually masochistic; he embarasses her and talks too much and she returns the favor by beating him up. The truth is that the two understand each other better than other people do. For him, she is the most interesting thing in the world, and he treats her at the same time as both a normal person and someone exceptional. To her, he is a human who has stood by her the entire time she has been in Japan, and who can understand her without a word typed between them. She is able to open her heart to him in ways that she doesn’t with anyone else. There is admittedly a level of coercion on Shinra’s part in all this, especially as he kept knowledge of her head from her, but there is really nothing he could do to stop her from leaving if she wanted to, and the both of them know it. She is devoted to him because she wants to be, not because she feels obligated or trapped. His support of her as an individual is what helps her become more than simply a monster looking for her missing head, and the fact that she has someone to go home to share the stories of her day with is what makes her new life worth living.

Despite the questionable legality of her riding around at high speeds on a motorcycle, um, horse with no headlights or license, Celty is actually fairly civic minded. She doesn’t want to cause trouble for her friends and she worries that if she has gangs or the police coming after her that she’ll put them in danger. That’s why she tries to take care of things herself or runs from most encounters that are too much for her to handle by herself or run the risk of dragging someone into them. Of course she still tries to run from the police because they’re scary.

Alignment: Neutral Good

Weapon usage: Scythe, Motorcycle
Skills and abilities: Celty can create shadows and control and shape them. Her familiar Shooter has similar abilities.

Current, returning, or invited? Current (Nina and Celia)

CHARACTER
Name: Brooke Eirichu (pronounced: "ī-rĭk")
Journal: [personal profile] dorinta
Series: Original
Age: 17 years
Canon point: After leaving Domain, but before reaching Eternity.

History and personality:
The OU Brooke comes from is a collaborative OU between myself and one other person, and is the same OU that Celia Espellomente comes from1. It is largely inspired by the Fire Emblem series, with a much heavier emphasis on fantasy elements. While we are in the process of reworking several things for consistency's sake and progress has been slow due to a handful of external factors like real life, most of what has been agreed on has been documented on a personal wiki for the OU here2.

1: Brooke and Celia have no interaction in-universe; they have never met at any point. They will generally be aware of each others' existence here, though, thanks to the runes.
2: Information already documented on the wiki is very unlikely to change, but new additions will occur over time. Most of such additions should not directly impact Brooke in any way, but just in case, this should be kept in mind.

Specific pages that are relevant:
Brooke Eirichu
Domionica
Korani
Races
Types of Magic
Miscellaneous Terminology

Alignment: Doormat! Er. I mean. Lawful Good with Neutral Good leanings. She is a total doormat, though.

Weapon usage: Brooke does not use physical weaponry, though if it were to prove to be absolutely necessary (for self-defense, etc.) she would be willing to learn.

Skills and abilities:
First and foremost, Brooke is what is called a "Bringer". The Bringers are a of race of angel-esque beings found only in select locations on the planet of Domionica that utilize "Cardinal Magic" (a more-casual term for it is "Light"), which refers to both holy and unholy powers, although which kind in particular any given Bringer can use appears to be a genetic trait. In addition to their innate magic, all Bringers recover from injuries at a faster rate compared to ordinary humans—roughly 25% faster—but injuries caused by their opposing type (see below) often require special attention before they will begin to heal properly. Some Bringers, Brooke included, will sometimes exhibit an unusual psychological need to help others.

The holy variety of Cardinal Magic, referred to as either "Emerald" or "Sapphire" with the latter being more-powerful, is typically used for creation, often finding use as healing magic. On the other hand, the unholy variety is "Ruby" or "Amethyst" where again the latter is the stronger variation, and is used for destructive purposes, including offensive magic and curses. Moderate use of any of these has no immediate drawbacks, but extensive use can be rather tiring. Brooke in particular wields the Emerald variety.

A Bringer who wields either holy or unholy can be brought serious harm by their opposing type as one cancels the other, and if a strong-enough spell is used against them, there is a very real chance that they can be killed; opposing types of equal strength will usually cause serious injury at worst, while Emerald/Amethyst or Ruby/Sapphire in most scenarios spells bad news for the Bringer wielding the first type named in either pair. Curiously, all forms of Cardinal Magic are effective against demons, but demonic power—known in-universe as Kumori—is also similarly-effective against all Bringers. Additionally, a Bringer’s Cardinal Magic is an integral part of their being, anything that involves draining or otherwise taking magic away will be found to be excruciatingly painful and potentially fatal.

In addition to Cardinal Magic, many inhabitants of Domionica utilize "Variant Magic", which refers to the four primary elements and three minor variations of such. These hopefully require no real explanation, as Domionica's Variant Magic is generally your run-of-the-mill stuff. Of this kind of magic, Brooke is capable of using Ice and Lightning, utilizing them primarily for self-defense or to protect others, but she is by no means an expert at either type.

Prior application:
Previously played in Luceti, on LiveJournal from August 2010 to March 2011.
The application that was used there was basically a less-wordy version of what is stated here and on the above-linked wiki page for Brooke.
